Transient Response

Transient Response

Definition

Transient Response refers to a system's ability to react to sudden changes in state or load. In power systems, it is the time lag between a load step (demand spike) and the source's voltage recovery.

The AI Challenge

Modern GPU clusters (like Nvidia H100s) create massive load steps in microseconds.

  • Diesel Generators: Slow transient response (>5s start, >500ms stabilization).
  • Wattality BESS: Ultra-fast response (<50ms) using FPGA-based control loops.

This capability bridges the "inertia gap," preventing voltage collapse before backup generators can come online.
